10,000 Carrots Rabbit Rescue

is a very small, unfunded, non-profit organization that is dedicated to the Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Rehoming of abused, abandoned and unwanted rabbits in Nova Scotia. We do not have a shelter, so all the rabbits in our care are kept in private foster homes of our volunteers.

Over the last 13+ years, we have helped well over 1400 rabbits and take pride in the fact that every rabbit that comes through our doors will see a veterinarian,  be treated for internal / external parasites, be spayed or neutered, vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD) and socialized so they know that some humans are able to be trusted as 90-95% of them have been let down and abandoned by the humans that took on their care.

We are a small group of people who are passionate about rabbits wanting to do all we can to make the lives of all rabbits better, safer and more fulfilling.  We are not affiliated with the SPCA or with any other rescues and do not receive any financial assistance or funding from any sources other than from our loyal supporters. We can't do what we do for the rabbits without your help and support

How You Can Help ...

There are so many ways that you can help us with the work that we do with abused, abandoned and unwanted domesticated rabbits.

We receive no outside funding and operate on donations from our loyal supporters, as well as fundraisers and services we provide such as nail trims.

We are a small but mighty dedicated group of animal lovers who stand in the gap for these small, loving, sentient creatures who deserve so much more than they have been given.

Did You Know?

We provide free education sessions about rabbits for age groups from pre-primary through Senior's groups.

Our Mandate:

We are a small but mighty group of bunny-lovers who are passionate about rabbits, their care and advocating for their rights.  We are not affiliated with any other rescues and receive no funding outside of the fundraising we do on our own.  As such, we are limited in the help we are able to offer to people and the rabbits in their care.  We have adopted the mandate of helping the ones most in need, and will assist in any way that we can.  We do not have a shelter.  All the rabbits in our care are kept in private foster homes, so we are NOT able to "squeeze one in".

When we say we have no space, we honestly have no space and we do this to protect the health of the ones currently in our care.  There is no timeline as to when a rabbit will go to a home - there are no deadlines in this rescue.  When spaces do come available, they do not last long.

Please know, we understand your concerns, that life throws curve-balls and that things happen to make surrendering the only feasible option.  There is no judgement that will come from this rescue and the few volunteers that make it run.

Please reach out if you have questions about rabbit care, diet, hay, housing or really anything rabbit related and we will do our best to answer the questions you have and help in any way we are able.

PLEASE KNOW: If you have medical concerns contacting us is NOT a suitable substitute for seeking advice from a rabbit-savvy veterinarian.

Behind the Scenes - Our Staff

staff collage.jpg

In this rescue, once the rabbit comes into our care, they will not leave until they find the perfect home.  That being said, that is not necessarily the best course of action for every rabbit.  Sometimes a rabbit will come into our care and have higher needs - be it emotional or medical - and they become long-term fosters.  We affectionately call them "Staff".

Please  click on the pics above and learn more about the "Staff" members currently in our care.

They all have stories as to how they came to us and also the "job" they hold in the rescue.

Liquid Drop

Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease

Vaccine

Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease is on the move across Canada and the USA. We have no known cases here in Nova Scotia yet, but it is getting very close here. We need to act fast to protect the rabbits here in Nova Scotia and be proactive and preventative by vaccinating them now to give them the immunity they need in case they do come in contact with the virus.

This gives them a fighting chance if they do become exposed, as it is a fatal disease. A cruel and terrible way to die.

Please reach out if you have any questions regarding this disease, including the transmission, proper cleaning protocol etc. And we will be happy to let you know.  Let's work together to help protect the rabbits here in Nova Scotia.
